Teacher Training: Media Literacy in the Context of Contemporary Propaganda

Disinformation and misinformation in the context of digital media have become a global issue and established a supposed new phenomenon called fake news. Recent statistics emphasize the necessity and significance to foster critical media literacy skills among youths in the field of propaganda, disinformation and biased communication. Teachers have a key role in helping students and adolescents to develop critical media literacy skills which are crucial for building up resilience against disinformation campaigns. In this context, the use and construction of counter-narratives in class is a helpful possibility and we see a tremendous need for in-depth cross-national discussions about international propaganda and its contexts. The given teaching examples will have an impact in your classroom as well as practical relevance.
